Agreed Report Board of Management Meeting – 18th August 2020

A Board Meeting took place in Bunscoil Gleann Sidheáin on Monday 18th August 2020.

Principals Report was presented. It included details of staffing, enrolment and sacramental events of Confirmation and First Holy Communion.

A detailed report was presented covering Covid 19 return to school, preparations and maintenance to date in preparation for re-opening.

Health & Safety / Risk Assessments

Board Chairperson highlighted that nineteen separate risk assessments had been carried out in line with DES guidelines.  A separate risk assessment to be carried out in relation to the ASD classes.

The need for advice to parents in advance of re-opening to be put in place.

Recommendation for intense training among staff and pupils during first week of school.


Use of Google Classroom for distance learning if need arises.

Aladdin Connect to be put in place for re-opening for submission of homework, communication with parents and money collections. An E Payment system to be put in place for re-opening.

Parents Committee

Parents of incoming Junior Infants to be asked to volunteer on the Parents Committee.


Financial Report was presented by Treasurer

Agreed Report – Board of Management Meeting 23/06/2020

A Board of management meeting took place on 23/06/2020 via Zoom.  Minutes of previous meeting were read, proposed and seconded.

Principals Report was presented.

Draft Admissions policy has been forwarded to the Patrons Office for approval.

Distance Learning

Principal outlined how education have been delivered during Term Two via Aladdin.  Aladdin system to be upgraded to Aladdin Connect for re-opening for school year 2020/2021.

Online Learning Platforms “See-saw” and “Google Classroom” to be researched.

I.T. Survey

A short survey to be forwarded to parents re types/quantity of devices being used for online learning.

Preparation for Re-opening

The following needs to be addressed:-

  • Extra Cleaning hours

  • Perspex Screens

  • P.P.E

  • Hand Sanitising Stations

  • Dimensions of Classrooms for social distancing

  • Signage

  • Systems to be put in place for cleaning of surfaces

  • Survey of school building and environs to be conducted


  • Treasurer presented financial report

  • Online Banking now in place

Agreed Report  - 2nd June 2020

A Board of Management meeting took place via Zoom on 02/06/2020.

The meeting was opened by Chairperson Kevin McCarthy.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read, proposed and seconded.

Principals report was presented.

Draft Enrolment/Admissions Policy

Chairperson gave an overview of draft policy which has been submitted to Diocesan office for approval.

The following items were discussed:-

  • Upgrading to Aladdin Connect

  • Distance Learning / Online Platforms

  • Sixth Class Graduation year Book

  • Preparations for re-opening for academic year 2020/2021


Financial Report was presented by Treasurer


  • Draft Acceptable Use Policy reviewed and completed

  • Draft Admissions Policy forward to Diocese.

Return of School Books to School

Date for parents/guardians to return book rental books to school scheduled to take place on Saturday June 13th.

Agreed Report – 12/02/2020


A Board of Management meeting took place on Tuesday 11th February.  The two community representatives Helen Looby and Sean Murphy were welcomed to the Board by Chairperson Kevin McCarthy.  Helen Looby was appointed Treasurer of the Board for the four-year term.


  • Child Protection –

  • Child Safe Guarding Statement was reviewed.  This can be viewed by parents on school website. 

    • Principals oversight report was presented.

  • Enrolment/Admissions form for 2020/2021 school year was reviewed.

  • Open Morning for new entrants is Saturday April 25th at 10:00am.

  • Staff Professional Development – Primary Language Curriculum training to be continued; towards Healthy Eating Policy, a staff member attended training in the “Food Dudes” Initiative.

  • School Secretary and Principal attended training on new guidelines from FSSU (Financial Support Services Unit).

  • Sport

    • Lunch time training has resumed in hurling/camogie

    • Weekly visits from coaches from Affane/Cappoquin GAA club have resumed.

    • Commencement of Active Homework as part of Active Schools

  • Music

  • Peace Proms practice continues (4th – 6th classes)

  • School choir preparing for St Patricks Day Mass and Sacrament of Confirmation.

  • Tin Whistle lessons (3rd /4th Class)

  • Literacy

  • Literacy Lift Off continues in Junior classes.  A non-uniform day to take place on the last Friday of every month with proceeds going towards the school’s literacy fund.

  • Religious & Spiritual

  • Confirmation Preparation Masses – Friday March 2nd & Friday April 3rd – 10:00am in Parish Church.

  • Catholic Schools Week was celebrated week commencing January 27th with celebration of Grandparents Day on Thursday 30th January.  The Board of Management commended highly the work of 5th class with their teachers in the organisation of the day.

  • Quiz – Well done to pupils from 3rd – 6th class who represented the school at the Primary School Quiz held in Lismore recently.

  • Parents Committee -  Principal extended sincere appreciation to the schools Parents Committee on the two most recent fund raising events, the Annual Sale of Work and the School Calendar Fund Raiser.  A presentation of the proceeds of both events was made to the school on Friday February 2nd by Chairperson of Parents Committee Tony O’Donnell and Treasurer Angela Wilkinson.  The Board expressed their appreciation on behalf of the staff and pupils to all on the Parents Committee for the contribution of their time and efforts which is highly valued by the school community.
